Thankyou for bringing your hilarity to Adelaide! WHO IS ADELAIDE COMEDY? Originally formed by Justin Hamilton (JJJ, The Glasshouse, Rove Live.) and Lehmo (Triple M’s Wil and Lehmo & Before the Game.) in 2000, Adelaide Comedy has now been running stand up comedy nights for 8 years. Beginning with two gigs a week, one at P.J. O’Brien’s and another at Rhino Room, we have now expanded the weekly run into four nights with a second night at the Rhino Room and Wed nights The Highway (HWY). Each of these gigs has their own identity:
Tuesday at PJ O'Brien's: Is our party pub rock gig, giving the Adelaide community and tourists an entertainment destination early in the week. Now with $12 Jugs of Pale and $10 Refils from 8pm. Plus a Happy Hour after the show with $5 Coopers Pints, Vodka and Bourbon. It's cheaper than a movie and a hell of a lot more fun!
Wednesday at Rhino Room: Is where audiences can catch new comics trying to establish themselves and established comics trying new material.
Wednesday at HWY: Is our premier showcase venue where audiences can grab a bite to eat and then catch the best local, national and international comics in the biggest comedy room in Adelaide. The HWY will soon have an option of Gold Class Comedy so you can be pampered just like at the movies.
Friday at Rhino: Catch a showcase of the best comedians, doing everything from Fringe Shows outside of the Fringe, themed shows, improvised comedy, The Great Debate and even a Karaoke Comedy night is on it's way. Not to mention live local music and DJ's after every show!
We also recently ran a Sunday night summer season at The Henley Sandbar last year and for the last two years we performed Thursday nights at SKYCITY Casino.
We have over 70 talented local comics a large number of which have made television appearances on The Comedy Channel’s “Stand Up Australia.” and Raw Comedy on ABC TV and Ch 10. Successful Adelaide exports such as Lehmo (MMM), Justin Hamilton (The Advertiser Award for Best Act 2008 Fringe) Dave Williams (Writer for Stand up Australia) and Mickey D (Best act of 2007 Adelaide Fringe) also frequently come home and visit the gigs as it is Adelaide Comedy that gave them their start while they were starting Adelaide Comedy.
We are a huge part of the Adelaide Fringe every year with over 16 shows playing at the Rhino Room. During the Fringe we run an advertising campaign “Comedy Doesn’t Finish When The Fringe Does!” This is to let people know that we are here every week promoting local comedy and comedians whilst giving work to some of the best comics and up and coming comics around the country.
Adelaide Comedy supports the community’s youth by holding the South Australian leg of Raw Comedy, which is a national competition for new comedians. This competition is run by the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and sponsored by Triple J. Adelaide is proud to have produced four national winners since the competition started in 1998. We also provide the SA leg of the Green Faces competition in Canberra where we take the next generation of SA comics to compete with other new comedians from around the country. In addition, we also run workshops for school children interested in comedy who then go on to compete in the Class Clowns competition. We are very proud that South Australian Aaron Nobes won the national final in Melbourne this year. Our logo features a map of South Australia on his belly because we are proud to be South Australian and intend on bringing the best local, national and international comedy to all South Australians for many years to come. We have long term plans to be here in Adelaide and it is our sincere hope that our logo and our brand of shows will live long beyond ourselves and become a South Australian institution. We believe in South Australia as an entertainment and tourist destination and as a producer of brilliant comedic acts of all shapes and sizes. Adelaide Comedy, it’s comedians and venues has bared the entire of the cost of running the scene over the last 8 years.
