In the loop with Ryan Coffey (29.07.13)

In a recent Herald Sun review of Melbourne musical comedian Ryan Coffey’s show, it was stated that his ‘…luxurious beard alone probably has more musical talent than most of us could even dream of.

That is a great analogy of this guitar-playing, loop-pedal-wielding, tall and angular stand-up, who also happens to sport some fine facial hair.

After entertaining audiences all around Australia and finishing a successful Melbourne International Comedy Festival run, Coffey will make his second Adelaide appearance at the run of Adelaide Comedy gigs this July/August at selected venues over five nights.

Self-confessed gay Ned Kelly look-a-like, Coffey has all the nervous energy of a goofy 14 year-old, combined with the dry wit of a cynical romantic. His show is a clever inter-weaving of song, beat boxing and banter. It is precisely this perfectly-timed awkwardness which is the key to Coffey’s humour.

Click here for the PDF of this media release: Gary the Goat performs at Rhino Room

On Monday, Adelaide’s social media was aflame with pictures of a man and his goat: Gary the Goat to be exact. Gary and his human-comedian Jimbo Bazoobi are in town travelling from Perth to Adelaide, trying to find gigs along the way.

Adelaide Comedy could not turn down Gary’s doe-eyes (even though he’s clearly not a deer) and agreed to scrub their normal Thursday night Comedy Lab evening at Rhino Room to make way for the unlikely duo to perform.

Bazoobi and Gary will do 90 minutes of stand-up comedy in a show hosted by Adelaide’s Mark Trenwith this Thursday, July 4. Doors open at 7:30pm.

You can book tickets to see Gary the Goat and Jimbo Bazoobi at www.AdelaideComedy.com

KIDS LOVE TO LAUGH!

Click here to download the PDF of this MEDIA RELEASE

Sunday, July 7th Rhino Room will come alive with the giggles of stand-up comedy’s toughest critics: children!

Hosted by Fringe favourite children’s character Mr. Snot Bottom (played by Mark Trenwith), Adelaide Comedy’s Kids’ Show will be the first of many stand-up shows specifically for children.

Six of Adelaide’s best comics put aside their grown up stuff and perform five minute sets of jokes to make the little ones (and their adults) laugh.  This year’s national Raw Comedy winner Demi Lardner heads the hilarious local crew of: Chris Knight, Jason Chong, Angus Hodge, Fabien Clark and Mike Klimczak.

Mr Snot-bottom is a wild, over the top character armed with a mass of gags and routines centered around the topics that kids love; farts, boogers, bottoms and smells!

Star and creator, stand up comedian Mark Trenwith revels in this loud and disgusting character. ‘The kids definitely won’t be bored!’ exclaims Trenwith. ‘Mr. Snot Bottom is basically a kid’s comedian. His act is filled with lots of interactivity, sketches and generally rotten, puerile humour.’

Suitable for ages 5-12.

Adelaide Comedy’s 13th birthday featuring Greg Fleet

Click here for PDF of MEDIA RELEASE

Adelaide Comedy turns 13; celebrates with a week of gigs hosted by Greg Fleet and throws a huge party.

Now that Adelaide’s home of quality stand-up shows Adelaide Comedy is turning 13 it’s time for a change. Just like those changes we all experienced as the teens hit, Adelaide Comedy is ready for something different.

From July 10, Adelaide Comedy presents all new nights of stand-up comedy plus a specky new website with hours of fun comedy content, gigs, news and more.

To bring in the change, Australian comedic mastermind Greg Fleet will headline the entire run of shows for the birthday week (July 10-14) plus help host the huge birthday party at Rhino Room July 14. Friends and fans are encouraged to dress as their teenage self for the birthday party, to show solidarity with Adelaide Comedy coming of age.

Greg Fleet is a living legend of Aussie comedy, and one of the most experienced and popular stand-up comics currently working the world stage. Initially setting out to be an actor, Fleety trained at NIDA – the National Institute of Dramatic Art – before realising that comedy was his true calling. In fact, Fleety’s first foray into the comedy career was at Melbourne’s Prince Patrick Hotel in 1987 where, too nervous to stand up, he was more of a ‘sit-down’ comic. Now, of course, Greg Fleet stands head and shoulders above the pack by merging theatricality and comedy.

The Rhino Room will host One Mic Stand (open mic stand-up) every Monday, Comedy Lab (established comedians mixing up new jokes for your amusement) every Thursday plus Friday and Saturday nights will showcase the best in local, interstate and international comics each week.

The Marion Hotel holds onto its title as the best place for comedy shows in the South every Wednesday night and The Arkaba Hotel’s Sunday afternoon sessions will cater to those who need to tickle their funny bone on their day of rest.

All shows – excluding Monday’s One Mic Stand – will be headlined by Adelaide Comedy’s feature act of the week, which has included; Wil Anderson, Arj Barker, Stephen K Amos, Fiona O’Loughlin, Peter Helliar, Frank Woodley, Ross Noble, Pauly Shore, Jim Jeffries, Tom Gleeson and more.

“In one hour, Greg Fleet succeeds in dragging us to extremes of laughter, embarrassment and pity – but mainly laughter – as he takes us on the emotional roller-coaster journey of our lives” – The Independent, London
