Moataz Hamde

Moataz has been making people laugh ever since he can remember, but in the realm of stand-up comedy, has been doing so since late 2009.

His Alice Springs childhood combined with his Egyptian origins provide ample ammunition for material and his quirky and sometimes downright wrong take on things will leave you gasping for air.

He stepped onto the Adelaide Comedy scene and became one of 2010’s comedy-newcomer standouts by reaching the national final of Australia’s most renowned comedy contests, Triple J’s annual Raw Comedy.

Not long after, he took out A-List Entertainment’s prestigious Green Faces contest, held annually in Canberra, becoming the national winner and South Australia’s first champion in 11 years. He also got to take home the cash prize that ensued and got to feature alongside superstar Australian comedian Wil Anderson, for a weeks’ worth of shows at Australian Comedy’s Mecca, the Sydney Comedy Store.

At the 2011 Adelaide Fringe Festival, he was a part of the Adelaide Comedy Showcase, an ensemble of rising stars, handpicked to perform at South Australia’s finest comedy venue, the Rhino Room. He also played to sell-out crowds, alongside fellow comedian and friend Amos Gill, in their debut Adelaide Fringe show titled “Background Check” which proved to be a hit amongst festival goers.

Go and see him do stuff now, while he’s still funny because when he stops being funny that will be a bad time to go see him.

“Eminently watchable”- Julia Chamberlain, Chortle

“Refreshing and hilarious”- Sheree Hyde, Rip it Up Magazine

“Possessed of a sense of the absurd wrapped up in playfulness”- Peter Maddern, Kryztoff Magazine

“Moataz had me in stitches” – Amos Gill, fellow Adelaide Comedian & friend
